About Education Design Showcase
Our Goal: To share ideas that will help us achieve the best possible learning environments for all students at all levels of education.
EducationDesignShowcase.com is an interactive database for administrators, architects, facility planners and others involved in the planning, design and construction of education facilities nationwide. Designed to be a vehicle for sharing innovative, yet practical, solutions in planning, design and construction, this interactive tool allows you to search and select based on extensive project information including project size, cost, location, funding method, delivery method, sustainability, development team and more. Narrative is included that describes the project, its unique features, special challenges and solutions, and how the educational needs were met through the building design.
EducationDesignShowcase.com features instructional, administrative and service facilities for public, private and parochial schools of all levels, up to and including technical, 2-year colleges, and 4-year colleges and universities. New buildings, renovations, additions, restorations and adaptive reuses are included. Projects may reflect an entire education entity or a specialized facility, such as a media center, food court, sports facility, childcare center, residence hall, etc.
The award winning projects displayed on the EducationDesignShowcase.com site were evaluated by a jury of administrators, architects, and facility planners for excellence in design and functional planning directed toward meeting the needs of the education program. Primary consideration was given to the following:
Architect/designer response to the program requirements
Aesthetic characteristics of the solution
Innovation and creativeness
Attention to safety and security
Efficient use of space
Planned flexibility to accommodate change
Accessibility for all users
Site design, adaptation and development
Selection and use of materials
Attention to the environment, maintainability and energy use
Effectiveness of the planning process
Each year the jury selects two Grand Prize winners – one from K-12 categories and one from higher education categories. Grand Prize winners receive $1,000 scholarships presented to the winning institutions. Honorable Mention and Project of Distinction designations are also awarded. Projects receiving these award winning designations appear in the June issue of School Planning & Management/College Planning & Management as well as on the EducationDesignShowcase.com site.
New projects are being added to this site year-round, so add us to your favorites and check back often.
